BICOL College of Medicine
The establishment of a College of Medicine was part of the Bicol University’s Comprehensive Development Plan 2004-13. There was support for this undertaking from outside of the University thru the Regional Development Council, in its 2009 and 2012 Resolu tions and from some political leaders. On July 27,2010,theAcademic Council approved the curriculum of the Doctor of Medicine Program that was crafted by an Ad hoc team composed of CN faculty/experts. The Boardof Regents approved the proposal to open a College of Medicine in Bicol University on September 3, 2012. Aweek later, a three-person team from the CHED Technical Panel for Health Profe ssional Education and Technical Committee for Medical Education went to the BU.
The team recommended that Bu“reviews its proposal in the light of the world wide call for transformative medical education,inter- and trans-professional education in order to produce the transformative doctors in the region for the next century. The CHED technical panel also wanted the BU to have an innovative and non-traditional medical program. In response to these recommendations, the BU administration hired a team of consultants who initially formulated the seeds of the BU medical curriculum. The team also spearheaded several meetings with medical academics, specialists and allied health professionals where a transformative and integrative curriculum was created and finalized.
